Questions:
  1. What was confusing, convicting, or encouraging from this study of Scripture?
  2. Why would people find the statements in Colossians 1:15-20 so offensive? How would you respond to someone who thought these claims were ridiculous?
  3. Jesus is the image of the invisible God: how would you describe what Christians believe about Jesus and his deity to a friend?
  4. How do you feel about the importance of church in general, and your church in particular? How have the ideas of this passage changed those views?
  5. Could you explain in a way that a non-believer could understand the reasons why Jesus had to become a living, breathing human being in order to save us?
  6. How does Jesus’ sacrificial death make peace? What could be offensive about that claim?
  7. What has changed in your own life since you first trusted in Jesus? What steps do you need to take to remain “stable and steadfast” in your faith?
  8. “Holy”, “blameless”, “above reproach” (v 22). How would believing these truths to be accurate descriptions of yourself change the way you live and feel about your Christian life?

    3. Lord, help us to fulfill our ministry of encouraging one another to grow and mature more and more into the image of Christ as His disciples.

    2. Where is this prophecy quoted or referenced in the New Testament? (See Matthew 12:18-21). Who is the Servant spoken of in Isaiah 42? 
    3. What does it mean for Jesus to bring justice to the nations? How is this already happening? In what way do we still long for it to happen? 
    4. Why is it significant that Jesus does not reject lowly and weak people but chooses to build His just Kingdom through them? How does this encourage you?
    5. How is Jesus a light to the nations? Why is this metaphor so helpful for us in understanding His mission? (See John 1:9, John 8:12, & Colossians 1:13).

    4. We definitely see the greatness of God beautifully described in Isaiah 40. Is there a description of His greatness that really stands out to you? Why? 
    5. What does Isaiah 40:26-31 teach us to do with our weariness and weakness? How has God been your strength in such times?

    4. What motivated God’s miraculous defense of Jerusalem? (See Isaiah 37:35.) How does a desire that God be known and honored by all the nations of the earth impact how you live and pray?
    5. Does it encourage your faith to learn of this historically verifiable miracle which demonstrated God’s power? How do you need to trust more deeply in the power of God in your own life?

    2. Judah needed to trust God and His promises (as seen in chapters 13-25) even as the nation was suffering at the hands of Assyria and Jerusalem was threatened by this empire. In what difficult circumstances do you need to trust God and His promises?
    3. What city is described in verses 1-2? How does Revelation 21:22-27 shed light on this?
    4. According to verse 3-4, what will give us peace in our minds? Where are you struggling to have peace? What do you need to do about this?  (See Philippians 4:6-7)
    5. Verses 8-9 describe God’s name and renown being the desire of our hearts and describe a soul that yearns and longs for Him? How is this like or not like your experience with God?
